Eight years later, BMW finally released a new generation of 3-Series models at the Paris Motor Show. What are the upgrades of the 7th Generation 3 Series with the chassis code G20 compared with the current models? Follow the "Radish Report" to explore it!

The new BMW 3 Series will be built based on CLAR architecture, which is BMW's latest modular architecture. It can be compatible with steel, aluminium and carbon fibers, and has space for rear drive and four drive. It can even produce plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicles. In addition, it can be fully compatible with 48V system. At present, 5-series, 7-series, 8-series, brand-new X3 and brand-new Z4 will be built on this platform.

Because of the use of a new platform, the new generation of 3-Series has lost 55 kilograms compared with the current 3-series, and the wheel spacing related to operation has also increased. The front wheel spacing is 43 mm wide, the rear wheel spacing is 21 mm wide, and the new shock absorber system has been upgraded.

The size of the new generation 3-Series also gives the car a larger ride space. Overall, the length of the body increases by 59 mm, the wheelbase increases by 40 mm, the width increases by 16 mm, the height decreases by 12 mm compared with the current domestic version, and the foreign version decreases by 10 mm (the current Huachen BMW 3-Series is 2 mm higher than the foreign version). At the same time, the new design of the body also makes the new generation of 3-Series wind resistance coefficient reached an astonishing cd0.23.

Appearance is sharper

The new BMW 3 Series looks more vicious than the previous generation. The iconic double-kidney grille has been transformed from a cash separation between the two kidneys into a compact, integrated design with a larger area. The shape of the headlamp is more sharp and angular, even adding a sharp gap below to highlight the dynamic feeling. However, it should be noted that the classical Hodgson Corner has undergone a "variation", which is more three-dimensional than the previous Hodgson Corner, but also moved from the previous door position to the body of the C pillar.

The taillights feature BMW's latest two-color design, which makes them more dynamic even when they are not lit. At the same time, the prominent, three-dimensional red LED light band also greatly increases the night recognition of the new 3-series. In addition, the bilateral exhaust layout and "duckling tail" further enhance the three-series motion properties.

In interior decoration, the new 3-Series has once again come to the front of the 5-series and 7-series, taking the lead in adopting the same design style as the new X5. In the power part, the new generation of 3-Series gasoline version will be divided into 318i, 320i, 330i and M340i, of which 318i is equipped with a 1.5T three-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 152 horsepower; 320i and 330i are equipped with 2.0T power, with a maximum power of 209 horsepower and 269 horsepower respectively. In terms of acceleration performance, the 330i horsepower improvement can reach the level of 5.8 seconds, and 320i has a breakthrough performance of 7.2 seconds. The more powerful M340i xDrive can break a hundred in 4.4 seconds.

BMW 320i has 12 more power than C260 with a 1.5T and 48V system, compared with the upcoming mid-term convertion of Class C. 330i is 11 units larger than the C300 with the M264 engine.

The new generation of 3-Series has made tremendous improvements in handling, such as suspension geometry, spring stiffness coefficient, internal structure and damping of shock absorber, and even chassis rubber sleeve. At the same time, the overall torsional rigidity of the body increased by 25%, and the rigidity of the front and rear suspension areas increased by 50%. The front of the car body is made of a large amount of aluminium material, which reduces weight by 54 kg. This reduces the inertia of the vehicle, makes the control more agile, and also helps to achieve a 50:50 weight distribution of the body before and after. Compared with the cash 3 series, the weight of the new 3 series is reduced by 1 centimeter, and the weight of the sports suspension vehicle will be reduced by 1 centimeter in exchange for more extreme control.

A set of steering system with fixed steering ratio is standard for the new 3-series. With the selection of sports suspension, the variable steering ratio system upgraded together can slightly increase the steering ratio with the increase of the steering wheel rotation angle. The most gratifying news is that BMW did not adopt a disgusting active steering system (steering ratio changes with speed) on the G20 3 series, and that the system's adjustment to steering ratio is totally unpredictable. Its existence is a disaster of manipulation.

On the brake system, the new three-series standard brake calipers are equipped with front four and rear two, and an electronically controlled LSD limited slip differential is also equipped on the M340i model.

Suspension can flexibly absorb the impact from the ground, in other words, "hard but not upside down". Even in the case of uneven road surface in very sharp bends, the body can absorb bumps while maintaining the original trajectory. At the same time, BMW first used turbocharged engine on the 5th generation 3rd series, which is also the only product using V8 engine in the ordinary M3 series.

Sixth Generation F35 Long Axis Trisystem

The 6th Generation 3 Series was born in 2011. It is also the first domestic 3 Series with extended body. The chassis code is F3X. The F30 is a four-door car, the F31 is a traveling car, the F34 is a GT version, and the F35 is a domestic long wheelbase version.
